Paytm (One 97 Communications Limited), India's leading fintech and full-stack merchant payments platform announced that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from 12 countries can now log in to the Paytm app using their international mobile numbers and make UPI payments directly through their NRE or NRO bank accounts.
Paytm Enables NRIs to Make UPI Payments in India Using International Mobile Numbers
With this new feature, NRIs can seamlessly use Paytm UPI for everyday payments, money transfers, and online transactions across India. This includes paying at shops, restaurants, and local businesses by simply scanning a UPI QR code, as well as shopping online on Indian apps and websites, all without the need for international payment gateways or currency conversion.

The service enables NRIs to send money instantly to friends and family in India or transfer funds between their own accounts, eliminating traditional remittance delays and high foreign exchange charges. Notably, this feature works without requiring an Indian SIM card, allowing NRIs to stay financially connected with India even while living abroad.
Available for NRIs in 12 Countries; Check List
According to Paytm, the service is powered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and is initially available for Indians residing in Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, the USA, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, France, and Malaysia. The feature is currently being rolled out in beta and will become available to all eligible users in the coming days.
Paytm's spokesperson said, "We started Paytm with the dream of building technology made in India, for India - and now, for every Indian around the world. Enabling NRIs to use Paytm UPI with their international mobile numbers is another step in that journey. It keeps Indians connected to India's growing mobile payments ecosystem, no matter where they live."
In addition to this new capability, Paytm continues to offer exclusive features that make it one of India's most advanced payments apps. Users can download UPI statements in PDF or Excel, access spend analysis and classification, hide payments, view total balances across linked bank accounts, and even generate AI rap songs about recent transactions through Paytm Playback.
Together, these innovations aim to deliver a comprehensive, secure, and intelligent digital payments experience for both domestic and international users.
