India's plastic exports experienced a yearly decline of 5.6% in November, reaching USD 892 million. This decrease is primarily attributed to a drop in shipments of miscellaneous products, according to a statement released by the Plastic Export Promotion Council (Plexconcil).
Decline in Miscellaneous Products and Items
Exports of miscellaneous plastic products and items witnessed a significant decline of 48.5% in November 2023 compared to the previous year. This downturn is attributed to lower shipments of optical fibers, optical fiber bundles, and cables.
Positive Growth in Certain Sectors
Despite the overall decline, some sectors within the plastics industry experienced positive export growth. These include panels such as FRP and composites, medical items made of plastics, floor coverings, leathercloth and laminates, flexible and rigid packaging items, and human hair and related products.
Bullish Demand in International Markets
Despite the slight decline in November, Plexconcil chairman Hemant Minocha expressed optimism about the demand for Indian plastics in international markets. He highlighted the potential in the South American continent, where a recent strategic buyer-seller meet was organized across Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
Efforts to Boost Exports
Plexconcil is actively working to identify opportunities in various countries to enhance India's overall exports. The organization aims to create export opportunities worth over USD 100 million in the next four years through strategic initiatives such as buyer-seller meets and market research.
While India's plastic exports faced a decline in November, the industry remains resilient with positive growth in certain sectors. Plexconcil's efforts to explore new markets and facilitate trade connections are expected to contribute to the overall growth of India's plastics exports in the coming years.
