Reports suggests that the Indian Railways-the national air carrier is planning to restore concession for some traveller categories such as senior citizens, sportspersons etc.

As per TOI reports, the Railways is reconsidering the option as being the national carrier it has social obligation too. The government is also facing anger owing to the decision of withdrawing rebates. Meanwhile, Varun Gandhi-BJP MP has questioned why the rebate to senior citizens is taken as a burden even though Mps still are receiving subsidy on train ticket fare.
The low fares as well as concessions is the primary reason for the discontinuance of concession. Nonetheless as the situation ease and the department's financials improve, it has been expected that concession or rebates to senior citizen on train travel shall again be restored.
Also, the railway minister reported that during 2019-20 around 22.6 lakh senior citizens did not opted or opted to give up the concession available to them.
