Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced the renaming of the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal Link Project to the Ramjal Setu Link Project. This change was made on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously poured water from the Parvati, Kali Sindh, and Chambal rivers into the Ram Setu Jal Sankalp Kalash on December 17.

The project aims to provide water for drinking and irrigation to 40% of Rajasthan's population. It will channel surplus rainwater from Chambal and its tributaries, including Kunnu, Kool, Parvati, Kalisindh, and Mej, to other river basins like Banas and Morel. The initiative is expected to supply 4,102 million cubic meters of water.
Ambitious Water Project
Chief Minister Sharma released a poster for the Ramjal Setu Link Project at his residence. He stated that this project draws inspiration from Lord Shri Ram's legendary bridge-building feat. The aim is to connect rivers under Prime Minister Modi's leadership to enhance prosperity in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The project will ensure drinking water availability in 17 districts of Rajasthan until 2054. It will benefit approximately 3.25 crore people with accessible drinking water. Additionally, it will irrigate about 2.5 lakh hectares of new land and provide extra irrigation water for 1.5 lakh hectares.
Economic and Industrial Benefits
The Ramjal Setu Link Project also supports industrial development in these districts by providing necessary water resources. This aligns with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's vision of linking rivers to improve regional prosperity.
Sharma highlighted that this project is a significant step towards fulfilling Vajpayee's dream of interlinking rivers. It aims to make Rajasthan more prosperous by ensuring adequate water supply for both domestic and agricultural needs.
The project is expected to have a lasting impact on the region's economy by supporting both agriculture and industry with reliable water resources.
