Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the year. With just four days left until its theatrical release on 14 August 2025, the film is already generating extraordinary buzz and setting new benchmarks in terms of advance bookings and pre-release business.
Superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie Crosses Rs Crore Earnings Before Release?
Despite not having hit theatres yet, Coolie has reportedly already raked in a staggering Rs 250 crore through non-theatrical revenue streams including international rights, digital streaming deals, satellite broadcasting rights, and music rights. This massive figure is indicative of Rajinikanth's unmatched star power and the pan-India appeal of the film.

Coolie Advance Booking Collections: Rs 50 Crore and Counting
The advance booking for Coolie officially began in India on Friday, following a successful rollout in international markets earlier last week. Within just two days, the film managed to sell tickets worth Rs 14 crore in India alone, a number that is rising by the hour.
Of the Rs 14 crore domestic figure, approximately Rs 10 crore is attributed to the opening day collections, driven primarily by the Tamil version of the film, which contributed Rs 9.98 crore. The Telugu and Kannada versions are also witnessing good traction, while the Hindi-dubbed version has started slow with around 2,500 tickets sold from 400 shows, though it is expected to gain momentum closer to release.
Globally, the response has been even more phenomenal. As per trade tracker Sacnilk, Coolie has surpassed the $4 million (Rs 33 crore approx.) mark in international pre-sales as of Saturday. This performance places Coolie on track to become the biggest international opener for a Tamil film, potentially overtaking Thalapathy Vijay's Leo, which held the record until now.
Rajinikanth's Movie Coolie Surpasses Lifetime Earnings of Other Films in Pre-Release
Coolie has already outperformed the lifetime box office earnings of several major films, despite not having been released yet. Its current gross of Rs 14 crore in India is higher than what Hindi films like Emergency managed during their entire run.
Currently, the all-time record for advance bookings in India for a Tamil film is held by Vijay's Leo, which achieved Rs 46 crore in pre-release sales. Rajinikanth's previous hit, Jailer, had managed Rs 18 crore in advance bookings. Given the current pace of ticket sales, Coolie is expected to surpass both these figures, possibly setting a new all-time record for any Indian film's advance bookings.
Even when compared to major Tamil-language films, Coolie is already breaking records. With an estimated Rs 41 crore in overseas gross, the film has outpaced Kamal Haasan's Thug Life in the international market. While domestic collections still trail behind, industry experts are confident that Coolie will catch up and possibly overtake - before its 14 August 2025 release.
