The majority of Indian banks will not open on April 1st in order to complete and settle their accounts for the fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25), which concludes on March 31. Banks settle their financial records at the end of the fiscal year annually. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a calendar of bank holidays, specifying that all states and union territories-with the exception of Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Meghalaya-will have closed banks. Therefore, if you are planning to visit any bank on Tuesday, plan ahead because many banks will be closed on that day.
The RBI cancelled Eid's holiday to handle the anticipated high volume of transactions on March 31st. Initially, March 31 was declared a public holiday to commemorate Eid. However, the RBI cancelled the Eid holiday to ensure that banks stay open and functional due to the heavy financial transactions that typically occur on the last day of the fiscal year. The decision aimed to ensure smooth financial operations for closing accounts and completing end-of-year transactions.

There are 10 bank holidays scheduled across different states and union territories in India in April 2025, according to the RBI holiday calendar. These holidays vary depending on local festivals and regional celebrations as well.
To avoid any inconvenience, customers should check with their local branches for specific holiday schedules, as holidays may vary based on regional observances and festivities. For instance, banks will be opened on April 1st in some states like Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
