Safran Aerospace, a company based in France, has announced the establishment of Safran Aircraft Engine Services India in Hyderabad. This new entity will focus on maintaining and overhauling M88 engines used in Rafale fighter jets. The initiative is projected to generate around 150 jobs by the end of next year, with the possibility of adding 750 more positions in later stages, according to a Telangana government release.

Pierre Fernandez, General Manager of Safran Aerospace, shared these plans during a meeting with Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu. "We look forward to expanding our presence with the upcoming Safran Aircraft Engine Services India, focused on LEAP engine MRO services and scheduled to be operational before the end of the year, as well as a newly announced fourth site to provide maintenance for the M88 military jet engine powering the Dassault Rafale," said Fernandez.
Expansion Plans and Job Creation
The company currently operates two advanced facilities in Hyderabad. Safran Electrical & Power India manufactures electrical harnesses for CFM LEAP engines and Dassault Rafale fighters. Meanwhile, Safran Aircraft Engines Hyderabad produces rotating parts for LEAP engines' low-pressure turbines. These facilities are part of Safran's strategy to strengthen its footprint in India's aerospace sector.
Safran expressed appreciation to Sridhar Babu for inviting them to a roundtable with French companies investing in Telangana. This event was organized by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The company acknowledged the significant support it has received from the Telangana government over recent years.
Strengthening Aerospace Ecosystem
Safran's expansion aligns with efforts to position Telangana as a key hub for aerospace in India. The company aims to contribute to the region's dynamic aerospace ecosystem through its investments and operations. This initiative is expected to bolster local employment and enhance technical expertise within the industry.
The new facility will focus on Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services for LEAP engines. It is set to become operational before the year's end. Additionally, a fourth site will be established for M88 military jet engine maintenance, further supporting Dassault Rafale operations.
Safran's commitment to Telangana reflects its strategic vision for growth in India's aerospace sector. By enhancing local capabilities and creating job opportunities, Safran aims to play a pivotal role in advancing the region's aerospace industry.
