Two fighter jets from the Singapore Armed Forces were dispatched to guide an Air India Express flight away from densely populated areas due to a bomb threat. The aircraft, which was en route from Madurai to Singapore, landed safely at Changi Airport. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and the Defence Minister of Singapore, Ng Eng Hen, confirmed the threat via email.

The Air India Express flight, identified as IX 684, was targeted with a bomb threat while heading to Singapore. "Two of our RSAF F-15SGs scrambled and escorted the plane away from populated areas, to finally land safely at Singapore Changi Airport at around 10:04 pm tonight," stated Ng Eng Hen in a series of posts on X. The minister also mentioned that Ground Based Air Defence systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams were activated.
Response and Investigation
Upon landing, the aircraft was handed over to airport police for further investigation. The Defence Minister expressed gratitude towards the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and Home Team for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring public safety amidst potential threats. "Many thanks to the dedication and professionalism of our SAF and Home Team that keep us safe in our homes, even when threats exist around us," he added.
The exact number of passengers on board the flight remains unknown. Additionally, Air India Express has not yet released any official statement regarding the incident. The situation is under investigation by authorities to determine the credibility of the threat and ensure passenger safety.
The swift response by Singapore's defence forces highlights their readiness in handling such emergencies. The activation of both air defence systems and explosive disposal teams underscores the seriousness with which they approached the threat.
