SonyLIV announced the title on 14 March as part of its content line-up for the coming three months.

Generally, a movie is released on OTT platforms nearly two months after their theatrical release. However, Aamir Khan's movie saw an unexceptional delay in its OTT release. The dekay was driven by Aamir Khan's plan to go slow for its OTT debut.

Instead of using the common eight-week gap between cinemas and streaming, associated with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Khan preferred a slower transition. The strategy focused first on a pay-per-view model rather than an instant subscription release.

Khan has earlier expressed concern about the standard theatrical-to-OTT window, calling it harmful for film economics. For Sitaare Zameen Par, Khan chose a transactional video-on-demand route before any subscription streaming. This meant audiences willing to watch early had to pay per viewing, rather than find the film included within a monthly plan.
