The Indian stock market is in for a long weekend and a holiday-shortened trading week due to festivals. From March 28th to April 5th, there are two festivals lined up namely Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday. Also, the financial year 2025-26 will end on March 31. Accordingly, trading will be shut for at least four days on BSE and NSE next week.
Stock Market Holidays:

Stock market holidays will mean there will be no trading in equity, equity derivatives, SLB segment, forex, bonds, or commodities and other market-related instruments. There will also be a settlement holiday on NSDL and CDSL. However, commodity market will be closed only for the half day because the evening session that begins at 5:30 pm on MCX will be operational as normal.
There will be no trading equities, rupee, derivatives, bonds and others for the full day during these days.
Stock Market Holidays On March 31, April 3, April 4, April 5:
The first holiday of the week is for the celebration of Mahavir Jayanti. Market will be closed on March 31 for this festival.
The next holiday is for the occasion of Good Friday, a very pivotal day for Christians across the world.
Lastly, market will be closed on April 4th and April 5th due to weekend holiday.
Sensex, Nifty 50 Performance Weekly:
Sensex is currently at 73,583.22 and Nifty 50 is at 22,819.60. In their weekly performance from March 23rd to March 27th, Sensex dropped by 1,458.33 points or 1.94%, however, Nifty 50 outperformed Sensex with marginal gains of 118.05 points or 0.52%.
Stock Market Outlook Next Week:

According to Ajit Mishra - SVP, Research, Religare Broking, the upcoming week is expected to remain influenced by global macro developments, particularly crude oil price trends and progress in US-Iran ceasefire negotiations, which will be critical in shaping market sentiment. Stability in the rupee will also be important for any revival in foreign institutional flows.
On the domestic front, the scheduled expiry of March derivatives contracts is likely to keep volatility elevated. Key data releases include Industrial Production data for February, Government Budget Value, and the HSBC Manufacturing PMI Final for March, which will provide insights into economic momentum and fiscal positioning.
Meanwhile, on the global front, the US Federal Reserve's policy stance and inflation trajectory will remain in focus, while developments in China regarding policy support for growth and the property sector may influence broader Asian market sentiment.
Nifty 50 Technical Outlook:
In Mishra's opinion, the index witnessed significant volatility during the week and closed below the 22,850 mark, indicating continued weakness. Immediate support is placed around 22,500, and a sustained break below this level could extend the decline toward 22,000. On the upside, the 23,500 zone is likely to act as a strong resistance, and only a sustained move above this level would signal a potential recovery toward 24,000.
Sensex Technical Outlook
From a technical standpoint, Aakash Shah, Research Analyst, Choice Equity Broking said, "the Sensex is expected to find immediate support in the 73,000-73,100 range, which may act as a key demand zone. On the upside, resistance is placed around the 74,000-74,100 levels. A sustained move above this resistance zone would be necessary to trigger any meaningful positive momentum in the upcoming sessions."
Mahavir Jayanti 2026:
Mahavir Jayanti 2026 will be celebrated on March 31, 2026, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. It is a day of prayers, fasting, and acts of charity, observed by Jains across India. The festival emphasises non-violence, truth, and compassion, reflecting Mahavir's core teachings, as per Vedantu website.
Good Friday 2026:
Good Friday falls on April 3rd this year. Good Friday, also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, or Friday of the Passion of the Lord, is a solemn Christian holy day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum, as per Wikipedia.
