THDC India successfully synchronised the second unit of its Khurja Super Thermal Power Project, boosting India's energy capacity. This milestone reflects the company's commitment to enhancing power generation and aligns with national energy goals.
THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) has successfully synchronised the second unit of its Khurja Super Thermal Power Project with the national grid. This unit, with a capacity of 660 MW, is part of a larger 1,320 MW project located in Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh. The project represents a significant investment of approximately Rs 13,000 crore.

Unit 1 of this project began commercial operations on January 25, 2025. The synchronisation process involves aligning the unit's frequency and voltage with the main grid to ensure seamless electricity transmission. This achievement marks a crucial step towards the full commissioning of the entire project.
Project Details and Technological Advancements
The Khurja Super Thermal Power Project covers an area of 1,200.843 acres. It is an integrated coal-based thermal power plant that sources coal from the operational Amelia coal mine in Singrauli district. The plant incorporates advanced technologies such as Flue Gas De-sulphurization (FGD) to mitigate environmental impacts by removing sulphur from flue gas.
R K Vishnoi, CMD of THDCIL, stated: "Synchronization of Unit-2 of Khurja STPP marks a decisive step towards the full commissioning of this 2x660 MW project, reaffirming THDCIL's commitment to strengthening India's power generation capacity and advancing its portfolio in the energy sector."
Background and Future Prospects
The foundation stone for this project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 9, 2019. THDC India Ltd, based in Rishikesh and a subsidiary of NTPC, operates various thermal and renewable energy projects across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Kerala.
The successful synchronisation of Unit-2 underscores THDCIL's dedication to enhancing India's energy infrastructure. By integrating modern technologies and sustainable practices, the company aims to contribute significantly to the nation's power generation capabilities.
