Tripura's MSMEs and startups are encouraged to produce items for the defence sector using the state's abundant bamboo and rubber resources. This was discussed at an awareness session organised by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata. The event aimed to highlight the potential of Tripura's industries in contributing to national defence needs.

Aerospace and Defence expert Balpreet Singh emphasised that Tripura's resources could be pivotal for MSMEs and startups. Rubber can be used to make tyres, tubes, gloves, uniforms, and other defence gear. Bamboo, on the other hand, can be transformed into biofuel for aerospace and aviation applications.
Opportunities in Defence Manufacturing
Singh further noted that with proper guidance and support from the state government, Tripura could seize opportunities in defence manufacturing. The state's proximity to Southeast Asia offers potential for investment in supply chain integration and logistics hubs. The abundance of raw materials like rubber and bamboo can be harnessed for lightweight materials needed in defence.
S K Majee from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd highlighted Tripura's role in the country's defence sector. He urged local MSMEs, especially those in the rubber and bamboo industries, to take advantage of growth opportunities in the defence sector.
Government Initiatives and Strategic Location
Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, a Senior Defence Investment official, mentioned initiatives by the Centre to foster a domestic defence industrial ecosystem. These efforts aim to attract industry players to contribute to national defence capabilities.
Sabyasachi Debbarma, Joint Director of Tripura’s Industries and Commerce department, stressed the state's potential in transforming India's defence landscape. "The state’s rich natural resources - rubber and bamboo, skilled workforce and strategic location make it an ideal destination for defence manufacturing," he said.
The session underscored the importance of leveraging Tripura's natural resources and strategic location. By doing so, local industries can play a significant role in enhancing India's defence manufacturing capabilities.
