The United Arab Emirates has officially confirmed the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule for both federal government and private sector employees, offering residents and workers an opportunity to plan travel and family gatherings accordingly for Ramadan.

Eid Al Fitr Holidays In The UAE

According to announcements from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, federal government employees will observe the Eid holiday from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22. Normal working hours will resume on Monday, March 23, 2026.

For private-sector employees, the break will run from Thursday, March 19, to Saturday, March 21, 2026. As Sunday already falls within the UAE's regular weekend, many employees are expected to enjoy a four-day break, particularly in major cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. However, individuals whose roles require them to work on Sundays will need to return to work on March 22.

Officials further clarified that if Ramadan completes 30 days, the private sector holiday may be extended to include Sunday, March 22.

How To Turn A 4-Day Eid Break Into 9 Days?

For those looking to make the most of the festive period, smart leave planning could significantly extend the holiday.
By applying for annual leave from Monday to Thursday, March 16-19, employees could enjoy a nine-day break, i.e. from Saturday, March 14, to Sunday, March 22, combining weekends with Eid holidays.

This extended time off could allow residents to travel abroad, visit family, or simply enjoy a longer rest period during one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar.

When Will The UAE Celebrate Eid Al Fitr?

Despite the announced holiday window, the exact beginning of Eid celebrations depends on the traditional sighting of the crescent moon.

The UAE's moon-sighting committee is scheduled to meet on March 18, which corresponds to the 29th day of Ramadan. If the crescent moon is spotted that evening, Eid will officially begin on March 19. If not, Ramadan will complete 30 days, and Eid will commence on March 20 instead.

As the UAE follows the Islamic lunar calendar, Eid Al Fitr is observed on the first three days of Shawwal. As lunar months are based on moon sightings rather than fixed dates, the exact timing of Eid shifts each year slightly in the Gregorian calendar.

This system preserves the religious significance of the festival, ensuring that the celebration aligns with the conclusion of fasting and the start of a new lunar month. The final confirmation of Eid will therefore be announced only after the moon-sighting committee completes its observation.

However, the announcement of holidays is an indication for families across the nation to start their preparations for Eid, planning meals for the festival, getting dresses stitched from the tailor, and purchasing gifts for their loved ones.
