Uber is preparing to introduce its bus shuttle service in Hyderabad and Mumbai, following successful launches in Kolkata and Delhi. The company is actively engaging with stakeholders to secure approval for launching the service in Bengaluru, known as India's IT hub. Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, expressed enthusiasm for expanding the service to Bengaluru, pending regulatory consent.

Singh stated, "We already have two cities live with Uber bus and two more cities Hyderabad and Mumbai are going live and unfortunately, Bengaluru is not yet one of them." He emphasised his commitment to bringing the Uber bus service to Bengaluru if regulators permit. This effort reflects Uber's strategy to adapt services according to consumer preferences.
Uber's Expansion Plans
Uber is in discussions with various stakeholders to initiate the bus service in Bengaluru. Singh mentioned that regulatory approval is necessary for launching such a service. "We need regulatory go ahead to be able to launch a service like this and we have not been able to receive that," he said. Despite ongoing talks, there is currently no clear timeline for when the service might commence.
Singh also encouraged civil society and policymakers to embrace innovative transport solutions. He noted that several companies are eager for the Uber shuttle's introduction. "I would urge many people in the civil society. There are many companies which are keen for Uber shuttle to be launched," he remarked.
Potential Benefits of Uber Shuttle
The proposed shuttle service could operate routes like Hebbal and Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Bengaluru. These shuttles would be air-conditioned, pre-booked, and offer guaranteed seating every two to three minutes. Singh believes such services can complement existing public transport options in the city.
He expressed hope that policymakers will become more receptive to innovations like Uber's shuttle service. "I am hoping that the policymakers, are far more open to innovations like this," Singh added. This initiative aims to enhance urban mobility by providing efficient and comfortable transportation alternatives.
Uber's efforts highlight its commitment to expanding its services across India while adapting to local needs and regulatory environments. The company continues to work towards gaining necessary approvals for introducing its bus shuttle service in new cities, including Bengaluru.
