Starting October 7, Uganda Airlines will operate thrice-a-week services between Entebbe city in Uganda and Mumbai, using an Airbus A330-800 neo aircraft. The new route marks the first time in more than fifty years that a non-stop flight has connected India and Uganda. It's part of an expanding network offering connections across Africa.
Uganda Airlines, the national carrier of Uganda, announced on Tuesday that it would commence operations in India with a direct flight service between Entebbe city in Uganda and Mumbai. The new route is set to start from October 7th. This significant development marks the first time in over half a century that India and Uganda will be connected by a non-stop flight service.
A New Chapter for Indo-Ugandan Connectivity

The airline's announcement comes as an exciting update for both countries' travel industries, promising enhanced convenience and bolstered business and commercial relations. "We are excited to introduce this Entebbe-Mumbai flight, the latest addition to our network, which affirms Uganda Airlines expands travel options for our passengers," said Adedayo Olawuyi, Chief Commercial Officer at Uganda Airlines. He further expressed hope that this route would add energy to the existing ties between India and Uganda.
Flight Specifications
The thrice-a-week service will be operated using a wide-body Airbus A330-800 neo aircraft configured into three classes - business class with 20 seats, premium economy with 28 seats, and economy class accommodating the remaining 210 passengers. The decision was made public at an event held by Uganda airlines on Tuesday.
Expanding Network Beyond Africa
This new route represents another milestone for Uganda Airlines as it extends its services outside Africa's borders. It joins an already rapidly expanding network providing travellers convenient connections across South, West, Central and Eastern Africa. As part of its current operations beyond African soil, Uganda Airlines offers flights to various international destinations including Dubai and Johannesburg.
Promising Prospects Ahead
The introduction of this direct flight service is expected to create numerous opportunities in tourism trade between India and Uganda while making travel more accessible for both leisure and business travellers. This development could help in fostering cultural exchange, promoting tourism and strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Uganda.
In conclusion, the commencement of direct flights between Entebbe and Mumbai by Uganda Airlines is a significant step towards enhancing connectivity between India and Africa. It not only promises to boost trade and commerce but also opens new avenues for people-to-people contact, thereby contributing positively to the bilateral relationship between these two countries. As this new route begins operations, it will be interesting to see how it shapes the future trajectory of Indo-Ugandan ties in terms of travel, trade, tourism and beyond.
