Today's Union Budget 2025 introduced a series of key announcements for Bihar to boost the state's infrastructure, agriculture, and education sectors.The budget announcements come at a time when Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled for later this year. Key Schemes Announced for Bihar in Union Budget 2025
Below are the major announcements made by the finance minister in the Budget 2025 targeted at Bihar's development:
Makhana Board for Bihar
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the establishment of a Makhana Board in Bihar to improve the production, processing, value addition, and marketing of makhana. This initiative will support Makhana farmers, ensuring they benefit from central government schemes.
National Institute of Food Technology
A National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management will be established in Bihar. The institute aims to boost food processing activities in the Eastern region, increasing farmers' income while creating skilling, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities for the youth.

Western Koshi Canal Project
Bihar will receive financial support for the Western Koshi Canal Project, an irrigation initiative in the Kosi river basin. The project is expected to benefit farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land in the Mithilanchal region, improving agricultural output and water management.
Greenfield & Airport Infrastructure Development
Bihar will see the development of greenfield airports built on undeveloped land with comprehensive planning. The government will also work on expanding Patna airport and developing a brownfield airport at Bihta, utilizing existing infrastructure for further aviation growth.
Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, expressed his joy and said, The Union Budget is positive and welcome.
In his post on X, he said, "This budget of the Central Government is progressive and forward-looking. Through this budget, the central government has taken several steps to further increase the pace of development of the country. The announcements made for Bihar in the budget will further accelerate the development of Bihar. The establishment of a Makhana Board in the state to improve the production, processing, value addition, and marketing of Makhana will benefit Makhana farmers. Providing the facility of greenfield airports in Bihar to meet the future needs of the state will increase the number of international flights, which will greatly benefit the people here and will also accelerate the economic development of the state. The farmers here will benefit from financial assistance for the Western Kosi Canal Project in Mithilanchal. In this budget, provision has been made for the expansion of Patna IIT, which will promote technical education. The establishment of the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management in Bihar will provide skills, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities to the youth and will promote food processing activities in eastern India."
