The ASI 2023-24 report highlights Uttar Pradesh's rise as a leading industrial state, ranking among the top five for employment and factory units, with over 5.7 million jobs created.
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leading industrial state, ranking among the top five in factory units and employment, according to the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2023-24. This marks a significant transformation from its previous BIMARU status to an industrial powerhouse. The state government highlighted this achievement on Wednesday.

The ASI report indicates that Uttar Pradesh's industrial sector saw a 5.92% rise in employment for 2023-24. Over the last decade, from 2014-15 to 2023-24, more than 5.7 million jobs have been created. The state now stands alongside Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka in terms of employment, holding an 8% national share.
Industrial Growth and Employment
The rapid industrial expansion over the past eight and a half years has led to millions of direct and indirect job opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. The state ranks fourth in the country with an 8.51% share of total factories, following Tamil Nadu at 15.43%, Gujarat at 12.81%, and Maharashtra at 10.20%. This ranking highlights the strengthening industrial base of Uttar Pradesh.
The Uttar Pradesh government attributes this growth to a favourable investment climate that attracts both domestic and international investors. This environment has not only resulted in substantial investment inflows but also in the establishment of new factories across the state.
Investment and Industrial Development
Government policies have supported the development of both traditional and emerging industrial sectors, encouraging entrepreneurs to set up operations in Uttar Pradesh. The ASI 2023-24 survey underscores the state's growing industrial prowess, contributing 7% to the Gross Value Added (GVA).
Nationwide, there was an 11.89% increase in GVA, with industrial production rising by over 5.80% during the same period. These figures reflect the broader trend of industrial growth across India, with Uttar Pradesh playing a significant role.
The state's commitment to fostering an investor-friendly environment has been pivotal in its industrial success story. By creating conditions conducive to business growth, Uttar Pradesh continues to attract new investments and expand its industrial footprint.
Uttar Pradesh's transformation into an industrial leader is evident from its improved rankings and increased employment opportunities. The state's strategic initiatives have positioned it as a key player in India's industrial landscape, contributing significantly to national economic growth.
