As Vande Bharat trains are already operating on multiple routes, the announcement of the sleeper Vande Bharat facility has already created excitement among train passengers.

When Will the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Be Launched?

The first Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to be launched in the first half of January 2026, announced Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier. The first Vande Bharat sleeper train is expected to begin services on the Howrah-Guwahati route in January. Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Cost

According to the Ministry of Railways, the cost of a single Vande Bharat Sleeper train coach is estimated between Rs 8 crore and Rs 8.5 crore. The Railway Minister informed reporters that this is lower than most metro coaches, which usually cost about Rs 10 crore to Rs 10.5 crore each.

The Ministry of Railways has already stepped up production of Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, with close to 200 Vande Bharat trains, including chair car and sleeper versions, at different manufacturing stages. From 2026, plans include 12 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, with six rakes allocated to each direction on identified routes.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Ticket Charges

On average, the ticket fare for Vande Bharat Sleeper Train coaches is likely to remain between Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000. As per an Economic Times report, the Vande Bharat ticket cost is likely to begin at Rs 2,300 for a one-way journey between Guwahati and Kolkata.
Vande Bhara Sleeper AC 3-tier fare is likely to cost Rs 2,300, whereas the AC 2-tier fare will cost around Rs 3,000. The AC 1st class fare is likely to be fixed at Rs 3,600.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach Details

Each Vande Bharat Sleeper train will have 16 coaches arranged for different classes of accommodation. There will be 11 three-tier coaches, four two-tier coaches and one First AC coach. Overall passenger capacity is planned at 823 berths, with 611 in three-tier, 188 in two-tier and 24 in First AC.

The new sleeper design places emphasis on comfort for overnight journeys. Berths are ergonomically shaped with improved cushioning to support longer travel. Automatic doors connect coaches through vestibules that allow easier movement, while suspension systems aim to cut noise and vibration inside the train during higher-speed runs.
