The Indian stock markets, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed on Wednesday, August 27, in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi, a major Hindu festival celebrated primarily in Maharashtra.

As per the trading holiday calendar released by both NSE and BSE, there will be a full-day trading holiday across all market segments. This means that no trading activity will take place in the equity segment, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, commodity derivatives, and electronic gold receipts (EGR) on August 27.

Below are the list of segments that will remain closed across all exchanges on the occassion of Ganesh Chaturthi this week:

- Currency Derivatives
- Interest Rate Derivatives
- Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB)
- Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR)
- Commodity Derivatives (MCX)
- Mutual Fund Transactions and Corporate Bond Trades
- Negotiated Trade Reporting Platforms
Will Stock Market Open on August 28?
Additionally, trading in securities lending and borrowing (SLB), corporate bond markets, negotiated trade reporting, and mutual fund platforms will also be suspended. All transactions across these segments will resume as normal on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
The holiday has been declared in line with the Maharashtra state government's notification, which considers Ganesh Chaturthi a mandatory public holiday. Given that both NSE and BSE are headquartered in Mumbai, the exchanges observe a trading halt on this day every year.
MCX Holiday This Week: MCX Close on Ganesh Chaturthi 2025
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain shut for the entire day. There will be no trading sessions, neither in the morning nor in the evening, across any of its commodity platforms. This will affect trading in commodities such as gold, silver, crude oil, natural gas, and other agri and non-agri futures contracts.
Investors and traders are advised to take note of this market closure and plan their trading strategies accordingly. It is important to note that the closure affects not just equities but also commodities, currencies, and mutual fund transactions.

Aside from the regular Saturday-Sunday weekly closures, Indian stock markets will also remain closed on the following dates for public holidays in the remainder of 2025:

- October 2 (Thursday) - Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra
- October 21 (Tuesday) - Diwali / Lakshmi Pujan (Muhurat Trading to be held in the evening)
- October 22 (Wednesday) - Diwali Balipratipada
- November 5 (Wednesday) - Guru Nanak Jayanti
- December 25 (Thursday) - Christmas Day
When is Muhurat Trading 2025?
On October 21, which marks Diwali / Lakshmi Pujan, the stock exchanges will host a special Muhurat Trading session in the evening. This short session, considered highly auspicious, is symbolic of a fresh start to the financial year for many investors.
