Not all banks will remain closed on Monday as January 1 is not a bank holiday for all the banks in the country. However, banks will remain closed in a few states on New Year's Day. In January 2024, banks will be closed for as many as 16 days including regular holidays i..e Sundays and second, and fourth Saturdays. Besides, other holidays, banks across the country will be closed on Republic Day (January 26) which is a gazetted holiday.
Notably, state holidays are not the same across all the states in India except for gazetted holidays. If banks are closed in one state due to a state-specific festival it does not mean banks in other states will also remain closed on that day unless it is a gazetted holiday. Based on regional holidays, different states have different bank holidays.

All bank holidays have been divided into three separate categories: Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks' Closing of Accounts. Since banks will be closed for 16 days next month, it is very important to complete all your financial tasks beforehand so that you do not face any inconvenience at the last moment.
Banks in these States will remain closed on January 1
Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, and Meghalaya these states will be closed on January 1 on the occasion of New Year's Day.
In January 2024, there will be one long weekend. Since January 26 which falls on a Friday will be a bank holiday, the last week of January will see a long weekend as the Republic Day holiday will be followed by a fourth Saturday and Sunday. One should note that bank holidays do not mean people will not have access to essential digital services like the Internet, UPI, and mobile banking.
