It is frustrating to see not enough balance when you want to make a UPI payment. This is a situation that nearly many people face. However, there is a solution now. A new feature is here, which enables users to connect UPI with credit cards.

Most popular UPI apps, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM, offer this service. Once the card is linked, the customer can use it for online transactions without carrying the card physically. The payment amount will be charged to the credit card instead of the bank account.
How to Add a Credit Card to UPI
The process of linking a credit card is simple and takes only a few minutes.
First, the user needs to open the UPI app and make sure it is updated to the latest version. In the profile or settings section, usually shown at the top corner of the screen, they can access options such as "Payment Methods", "Cards", or "Bank Accounts and Cards", and after choosing the option to add a new card, they have to enter the card number, the CVV (this is the three-digit security code printed on the back of the card), and the expiry date. The user is required to type their name exactly as it is on the card. Some apps may also require a billing address.
Verification Process
After entering the details, the app will check with the card-issuing bank and will confirm the information. The process will be completed once a One-Time Password (OTP) is entered. Once verified, the user will receive a confirmation message acknowledging that the credit card has been successfully added.
Making Payments with a Credit Card via UPI
When the customers make a payment through UPI, they will see an option to choose the source of money. Instead of selecting the bank account, they can now select the credit card.
Customers can then enter the amount, scan a QR code or type the UPI ID of the person or shop they want to pay. To finish the payment, they have to enter the UPI PIN. The money will be charged to the credit card instead of the bank account, and the users will get a confirmation of the transaction.
Benefits and Safety
This feature allows the customers to pay easily without carrying the credit card. It also uses tokenisation, which means the actual card number is not shared with the merchant, making the process safer.
Customers can use this method for different types of payments, such as shopping, bill payments, and mobile recharges.
