There are many companies in India that offer comprehensive student insurance policy. For example, ICICI Lombard's student Overseas Travel Insurance covers major medical, repatriation, evacuation, dental expenses, etc., and can be combined with the Plus Plan for additional coverages like medical expenses related to pregnancy, mental disorders, cancer screening, mammography and sports injuries.

The Tata AIG Student Guard Plus goes one step ahead. The company even goes to the extent of reimbursing tuition fee paid in advance for the ongoing semester if your studies are interrupted due to medical or compassionate reasons.

It also protects you from any eventuality to your sponsor. In case of death or permanent disablement of your sponsor, the company will reimburse remaining school fees up to a specified maximum limit.

In case of death or hospitalisation of parent or spouse Tata AIG Student Guard Plus covers your visit for a duration more than seven consecutive days, with cost of the round trip economy class air ticket.

In several cases, universities do provide insurance cover to their students, but, it does not mitigate all risks and would be inadequate.
