Media stocks may rally ahead of elections on ad outlook

Media stocks may have two-good quarters beginning from Jan until May when the election results for the forthcoming general elections is likely to be known.

Various estimates are being made on the possibility of the likely improvement in outlook for the media sector. Some reports suggest that media buying might be boosted by at least 10 per cent as various political parties make known their programmes and policies through the media.

Among the most likely beneficiaries would be stocks like HT Media, which is currently trading at Rs 76, Sun TV Network at Rs 373 and DB Corporation at Rs 285.

Not only that it is possible that Ministries would pump in lot of money to focus on programmes already initiated ahead of the elections. Say for example the Bharat Nirman campaign which is currently on.

Clearly, it's going to be good going for media stocks at least until the elections are over. Analysts say in the next few days one can accumulate these stocks and sell them a little before the elections.
