In a surprise action, India's largest private sector lender, HDFC Bank, reduced interest rates on fixed deposits of less than Rs 3 Cr as we enter the financial year 2025-26 (FY26). After the adjustment, the bank slashed interest rates for two particular tenures-2 years 11 months - 35 months and 4 years 7 months - 55 months-by 35 basis points and 40 points, respectively. HDFC Bank's revised or latest FD interest rates go into effect on April 1, 2025. From today onward, investors will get a maximum interest rate of 7.25% on HDFC Bank FDs maturing in 18 months to 21 months.

The bank will continue to give a 3% interest rate on fixed deposit buckets with tenures of 7-29 days, while HDFC Bank will continue to offer a 3.50% interest rate on buckets with tenures of 30-45 days. For fixed deposit tenures of 46-6 months, HDFC Bank will continue to give an interest rate of 4.50%, while for tenures of 6 months, 1 day to 9 months, an interest rate of 5.75% would still be in effect. The interest rate on HDFC Bank FDs that mature in nine months, one day to one year, will remain at 6%, while the interest rate on FDs that mature in one year to fifteen months will remain at 6.60%.
On HDFC Bank fixed deposits maturing in 15 months to 18 months, customers will continue to get an interest rate of 7.10% and on fixed deposits maturing in 18 months to 21 months of tenure, HDFC Bank will continue to offer a 7.25% interest rate. HDFC Bank will still pay an interest rate of 7.00% on a fixed deposit tenure bucket of 21 months-2 years and 11 months.
HDFC Bank has reduced interest rates from 7.35% to 7% for fixed deposits coming to an end in 2 years 11 months to 35 months, but it will continue to pay a 7% interest rate for those maturing in 2 years 11 months 1 day to 3 years.
HDFC Bank fixed deposits maturing in 3 years 1 day to 4 years 7 months will still fetch an interest rate of 7% but HDFC Bank FD with a tenure bucket of 4 year 7 months - 55 months will now fetch an interest rate of 7% which was earlier 7.40% representing a rate cut of 40 bps.
HDFC Bank will continue to pay a 7% interest rate on fixed deposits with terms of 4 years, 7 months, 1 day to 5 years, and 5 years, 1 day to 10 years, respectively.

"For Fixed Deposit Interest Rate Less Than 3 Cr- It is reiterated that the interest rate applicable on multiple deposits, across all channels, made by the same customer in a single day in one particular tenor bucket would be the rate which is applicable for the aggregate value or the individual value whichever is lower," mentioned HDFC Bank on its website.
With sweep-in and super saver features, you may start an FD for as little as Rs 5,000 in HDFC Bank. Senior citizen customers will continue to get an additional benefit of 50 bps higher than the card rates across tenures.
