On January 3, 2025, the Indian government launched the Baanknet portal, a new e-auction platform designed to make property purchases more affordable and accessible. M. Nagaraju, the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), unveiled the portal, which consolidates distressed property listings from public sector banks (PSBs) into one user-friendly platform.
What is Baanknet?
Baanknet is an innovative portal which is designed to simplify property auctions. It offers a centralized location for potential buyers to access over 120,000 properties, ranging from residential to commercial real estate. The portal is created to provide transparency and efficiency, making it easier for people to bid on distressed properties at competitive prices. The listings are updated in real time, and the entire bidding process is automated, ensuring a seamless experience for both sellers and buyers. The listings include a variety of properties such as agricultural and non-agricultural land, industrial buildings and land, commercial spaces, shops, vehicles, plant and machinery, as well as residential properties like flats, independent houses, and open plots giving a wide range of option for people looking to invest in real estate.

How Does Baanknet Work?
The Baanknet portal allows users to browse properties available for auction from public sector banks across India. Interested buyers can register on the platform, browse a wide selection of assets, and place bids on properties of interest. The portal also offers features such as automated payment systems and secure transactions, simplifying the entire property-buying process.
Benefits of Baanknet for Property Buyers
- Baanknet allows buyers to acquire distressed properties at lower-than-market rates, making it an ideal platform for those looking for affordable real estate investments.
- All auction details are made publicly available, helping buyers make informed decisions while promoting fairness in the bidding process.
- Baanknet offers a range of property types, including residential, commercial, and industrial assets, catering to various buyer needs.
- The platform simplifies the traditional auction process by automating payment and transaction processes, reducing delays and paperwork.
Why Buy Distressed Properties on Baanknet?
Buying distressed properties through Baanknet offers significant savings, as these properties are often sold below market value. Baanknet provides a great opportunity for both first-time buyers and experienced investors to acquire property in an affordable and efficient manner.
