UPI Goes Live in Qatar: Money transactions will be easy for those who are planning to travel in Qatar in the coming months. NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has tied up with Qatar National Bank (QNB) to allow QR code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions.
The new partnership between NIPL and QNB will ensure that people will be able to use UPI for payments at point-of-sale terminals across Qatar for merchants acquired by QNB. With this, Indians won't have to worry about converting the currency as they can perform real-time transactions nationwide. Here are all the details you need to know about UPI payments in Qatar.

The recent partnership has added Qatar in the list of countries where UPI is accepted for making online payments like Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, etc.
"The acceptance of UPI in Qatar promotes interoperability and expands UPI's global reach," NPCI said in a statement. The UPI payments have been made applicable across the Qatar by Tokyo-based company NETSTARS.
"We aim to enhance the acceptance of UPI globally and create a truly interoperable global payment network. The partnership with QNB is a step towards this journey. It will help millions of Indian travelers make seamless, secure digital transactions and reduce their dependence on cash. As UPI makes its mark, we are focused on driving interoperability and making cross-border payment experiences hassle-free for users." stated Ritesh Shukla,CEO,NPCI International.
How To Use UPI In Qatar?
People can make international payments via UPI using any of their UPI-based application whether it is Google Pay, Paytm, etc.
It is important to enable UPI International payments to use the facility abroad in places like Qatar.
-For example, if you are using Google Pay to make international payments, open your application first.
-Then scan the shop's QR code.
-Enter the amount of the money which is meant for transactions. Make sure that you fill the right amount, and in right currency.
-After cross checking the amount and currency, proceed.
-Pick the bank account you wish to pay from.
-Then tap on 'Activate International'.
-While making the payment, banks will charge some amount to convert the amount from different currency.
