The National Electronic Fund Transfer or NEFT is a very popular way to transfer money. It has now eliminated the cumbersome need to receive cheques and send them for clearing. It has made the process very fast for sending and receiving money to and from the benefeciary.

1) Money can be send through NEFT from 8 am to 6.30 pm every day
You can send and receive money through NEFT almost the entire day. Now, the above timings are applicable on all days except the 2nd and fourth Saturdays, wherein the banks are closed.
Earlier, banks were open on Saturdays and hence the timings were half days for transferring money through NEFT. Now with banks closed on 2nd and 4th Saturdays, you can send money on 1st and 3rd Saturdays as well.
2) Charges that you have to pay on the NEFT
Apart from the timings, you must also note the charges that are applicable on the NEFT. The charges are not very much, and if you are sending amounts under Rs 10,000, the charges are just about Rs 2.50. If the amounts vary from 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh, the amount charged is Rs 5.
3) Branches have to be NEFT enabled
The various bank branches have to be enbled to make an NEFT transfer. So, apart from seeing the timings for NEFT transfer, the first step would be to see, if the branch where you intend to transfer amount is enabled for making a National Electronic Fund Transfer. The Reserve Bank of India has a detailed list of banks that are a part of the system.
4) Important to remember the restriction on amounts and timings
There are no restrictions on the amount that can be transferrred through the NEFT. However, there is a limit on cash based transactions to the tune of Rs 50,000. So, do keep the amount in mind, before you are remitting. We wish to reiterate once again, that this is only for cash based transactions.
Conclusion
While it is important that you have noted the timing from 8 am to 6.30 pm everyday for NEFT transfer, it is also important to remember that you should not go ahead and remit money at the last minute.
For example, try to initiate a transfer before 5 pm. This would enable you get an alert if the funds have been transferred on the same day. Otherwise, you may have to wait until the next day, to know if the funds have been transferred or not.
