There is more to ATMs than just withdrawing and depositing cash and cheques.
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) sometimes function as a mini bank. ATM allows you as a customer to make basic bank transactions. ATMs provides customers easy access to their bank accounts.
Anyone with a debit or credit card can enter into an ATM counter and do transactions. Apart from withdrawing money from your account, there are many facilities available with ATM counters.
How many of these uses did you know about ATMs?
Make donations
Through ATM you can donate money also. A bank like SBI provides the facility of donating funds to charity or temple trust through ATM. You can make a donation to your favourite charity. For example, through ATM you can donate money to Tirupati, Palani, Ramakrishna Mission, Kashi Vishwanath etc. You will be given receipt of this donation which can be used for tax reduction also.
Withdraw cash
The most popular service of ATMs is cash withdrawing facility. After demonetization, there are few restrictions on cash withdrawing. From 28 February, the cash withdrawal limit will be increased to Rs 50,000 per week from the existing Rs 24,000.
Balance enquiry
Bank customers can use this service to check the current available balance in their account. After swiping your ATM card you can see the balance enquiry option in the screen. You can also ‘Go Green' by selecting the view option as the balance is displayed on the screen else get a transaction receipt by selecting print.
Mini statement
To keep a track of the transactions in your account, you can avail mini statements. The last 10 transactions in your account will be shown in the mini statement.
Mobile recharge
Don't search for a retail shop when your mobile balance is low, now, you can recharge your mobile at the ATM counter. Enter your mobile number and the amount and your mobile will be recharged. You will get confirmation SMS also. Many ATM's including SBI ATMs are providing this facility.
PIN changes
Bank customers can change 4 digit PIN number of thier debit card at ATM counters. This facility is already provided by all ATM centers. This can be done at regular intervals.
Request for cheque book
People need not to visit the bank branch in order to give cheque book requisition request. You can visit ATM center and give a request for the new cheque book. Remember to update your registered address in the branch as the cheque book will be delivered to the address registered in the branch. This facility is already provided by ICICI bank ATMs, and SBI ATMs.
Tuition fees and utility bills
Some educational institutions provide a facility for payment of Tuition fees through ATM. You need to register first in order to use this facility. This facility is available at limited places. Through SBI ATMs customers can pay their utility bills also.
Bangalore/Hubli/Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company, Karnataka and Chattisgarh State Electricity Board bills can be paid through ATM.
Inter bank funds transfer
You can transfer funds between the bank's customers and customers of other banks.Union Bank of India, Canara Bank, Andhra Bank, Saraswat Co-operative Bank and YES Bank allow inter-bank fund transfers through debit cards. For this card-to-card transfer, a customer has to go to the ATM and just punch in the debit card number of the person to whom he or she wishes to transfer money. You have to type the 16-digit debit card number of that person in the ATM and the amount you want to transfer. Immediately, once you confirm ok, your account gets debited and the other person's account linked to the card gets credited.
Inter-account transfer
You can make the inter-account transfer within the bank between accounts of same customer or different customers of the bank at the same center or different centers within the country. Many banks including ICICI bank and SBI provide this facility. All you need is your debit card, your pin, and the beneficiary's debit card number.
Deposits facility
Now there are many ATM machine with cash deposit facility. You will be allowed to credit your account by depositing money in ATM. This facility is given by SBI at some places. Apart from cash withdrawal facility, you will be able to deposit money from ATM as usual.
Mobile banking Registration
Customers can register for mobile banking at ATM counters. Banks including SBI and ICICI are allowing its customers to register or deregister your mobile banking application using bank ATMs.
Open FD
The facility is available to all resident Indian individuals only, who are customers of any of the ICICI Bank Resident Savings or Salary Account having a debit card and PIN.
Tax payment
Tax Payment facility is available at ATM. To use this facility need to register your debit card with your bank's website for ATM payment of tax. Union bank of India and Hdfc bank are providing this facility to customers. On payment of tax, the ATM will generate SIN Number slip. You need to submit this SIN number at bank website after 24 hours for downloading of challan.
Credit card bill
Don't worry about the last day to pay credit card bills. You can pay your credit card bill by using a debit card at ATM counters. Many banks including SBI is offering this facility. You can also collect an instant payment receipt. After inserting your debit card into the ATM machine you can press the services tab to find the ‘Bill Pay' option. Then enter your card number and pay the bill.
Insurance premium Payment
You don't need to consult your insurance agent or visit insurance office to pay the premium. Your nearest ATM allows you to pay the insurance premium. ICICI bank and SBI already provides this facility. After inserting your card go to services option for paying your insurance premium.
