The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is an initiative to solve India's unskilled labour and unemployment issues.
There is no denying that unskilled labour is one of India's job market's biggest problems. Due to lack of adequate vocational institutes to train individuals in specialised skills industries cannot find suitable workforce despite large population.
Recognising this issue, the government of India started Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) that would benefit 10 million Indian youth between the years 2016 and 2020.
It was launched by National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) in 2015.
What is the objective of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana?
Its objective is to give industry-relevant skill training to the Indian youth to secure better livelihood. The cost of the training is borne by the government. You will additionally be given a job after successful completion of assessment.

Short Term Training
This training will be imparted to Indian nationals who are school or college dropouts or unemployed. The training will be provided in PMKVY Training Centres (TCs) according to National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
It covers areas like soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy. The duration of this training can vary between 150 to 300 hours based on job role.
If you pass the assessments, you will be placed in jobs by the scheme's Training Partners (TPs).
Recognition of Prior Learning
Those with prior skills or experience will be assessed under this program. The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is to make unregulated workforce fall under competent with the NSQF standards.
Agencies designated by MSDE/NSDC will implement RPL projects (RPL Camps, RPL at Employer's Premises and RPL centres) to impart knowledge amoung the candidates.
Special Projects
These facilitate special trainings in special areas or at premises of Government bodies or Corporates; roles that are not defined under the available Qualification Packs (QPs)/National Occupational Standards (NOSs).
The projects are considered special as their requirements are different from that of short-term training and stakeholder-specific.
The stakeholder can be a state or central government institute or equivalent corporate body.
Kaushal and Rozgar Melas
Training Partners conduct Kaushal and Rozgar Melas (job-fairs) every six months and are also required to actively participate in National Career Service melas and on-ground activities.
Placement assistance
On completing the assessment, you will be placed with the Training Partners. They will also provide you entrepreneurship assistance in case of self-employment.
Continuous Monitoring
The government has put in place some monitoring programs like the surprise visits, call validations, self-audit reports, etc to maintain the quality of the scheme.
