While there has been news that the government has reduced the printing of Rs. 2000 currency notes that came into existence post demonetisation, there is a huge market of fake currency notes that were recently revamped such as that of Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs. 200, Rs 500 and Rs. 2000.

So, to not fall prey to such a situation, if you are in a juggle whether or not the currency is real, you can check through some of these important points listed hereforth and get rid of the currency by going as per the RBI regulations, instead of otherwise to pass it on to some other person as then the situation leads to unlawful situation.
1. See through register with numeral printed on the currency note: In case of real note for that matter any new note issued by the govt. if the currency is positioned against light, then in such a case you will be able to see through the register with the numeral digit printed on the note. Say if it is a Rs. 2000 currency note then from the place where Rs. 2000 is printed you will be able to see through.
2. Mahatma Gandhi portrait on the centre with watermark: Apart from this there should be Ashoka Pillar on the right and micro letters featuring 'numeral' and 'RBI' should also be found on the note.
3. Latent image of denominational numeral : If the positioning of the note is at 45 degree at the eye level, then on the bank note a latent image with numeral can be seen.
4. Windowed security thread: The thread features inscriptions 'भारत' and RBI with colour shift. And the thread colour changes to blue from green when the note is tilted somewhat.
5. RBI governor's signature with promise clause: This along with RBI emblem should be located on the right side of the bank note.
6. Denominational numeral with symbol of the rupee should be colour changing from green to blue and found on the bottom right of the currency.
7. Numeral panel with increasing size on the top left and bottom right side.
8. Also the year for the bank note should be checked upon such as in the case of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 (it should be 2016). 2017 in case of Rs. 200 and for other bank notes such as Rs. 50, Rs. 10, Rs. 20 and so on, it should be 2018.
9. Language panel, motif, denomination numeral in hindi language and swachh bharat logo are other important metrics to ascertain whether the currency you hold is real or not.
