5 Government Schemes For Women Empowerment And Welfare

Women are an important part of society, without empowering them the society won't work normally. The women empowerment and welfare schemes are commonly launched by the government across the world in the respective countries. India, where women are worshiped is also a country with the most schemes for women empowerment and welfare to uplift their life and bring gender equality.

Gender equality topic and efforts to make it a reality has been around for years. The government of India is keen on empowering women, in an effort to do it, they launched various schemes in past years and continue to do. Schemes like Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Sukaniya Samridhi Yojana are some of the various other schemes that are most talked about.

Below we, covered 5 schemes that are not much talked, however, these schemes play an important role in women's empowerment and welfare in the country.

One-Stop Centre Scheme (OSC)

OSC scheme was established in 2015 to assist women who have been victims of abuse, whether in private or public areas, in the home, community, or at work. Under the OSC scheme women enduring physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and economic abuse shall be assisted with assistance and remedy without any condition. Women who have contracted out or been referred to the OSC who are experiencing violence as a result of attempted sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, trafficking, honor-related offenses, acid assaults, or witch-hunting will get specialized assistance.

A woman who is a victim of any kind of abuse can get assistance under this scheme through 3 ways mentioned below:

1) By herself.
2) Through any individual, such as a public-spirited citizen, a public official, a relative, a friend, a volunteer, an NGO, and so on.
3) Through the Women's Helpline (181), which is linked to police, ambulance, and other emergency response services.

Working Women Hotel Scheme

The scheme's goal is to increase the availability of secure and convenient housing for working women, as well as daycare for their children, wherever viable and job opportunities for women exist. The plan provides funding for initiatives such as the construction of new hostel buildings, the extension of existing hostel buildings, and the construction of hostel buildings in rented spaces. Working women's hostel projects supported by this plan will be open to all working women, regardless of caste, religion, marital status, or other factors, as long as they meet the scheme's requirements.

Swadhar Greh

The plan proposes a supporting institutional framework for women who have been victims of adversity, allowing them to live lives of dignity and conviction. It envisions providing these women with housing, food, clothes, and health care, as well as economic and social stability. Swadhar Grehs will be established in every district with a capacity of 30 women, to provide the primary needs of housing, food, clothing, medical treatment, and care of women in distress who lack social and economic support. Swadhar Grehs will help individuals reclaim their emotional power, which has been harmed as a result of their bad circumstances. It also offers them legal assistance and direction so that they may begin the process of readjusting to their new family/society.

 

Mahila Shakti Kendra

Mahila Shakti Kendra or MSK is aimed to empower rural women through community participation. The scheme is envisaged to work at various levels, and the National level and State level technical support to the respective governments on issues related to women is provided. To create an environment in which women realize their full potential, convergent support is being proposed for equal access to healthcare, equality, education, career and vocational guidance, employment, health and safety, social security, and digital literacy at Gram Panchayats level in selected districts/blocks across the country.

UJJAWALA 

The Ujjawala scheme aims to take preventative steps to stop human trafficking, particularly in vulnerable regions and segments of the population, as well as to provide for the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of trafficked victims. On the one hand, the new program is aimed at preventing human trafficking, while on the other, it is aimed at rescuing and rehabilitating victims. The scheme aims to prevent women and children from being trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation, to assist victims in being rescued from their exploitation and placed in safe custody, and to provide immediate and long-term rehabilitation services to victims by providing basic amenities/needs such as counseling, legal aid and guidance, and vocational training.
