Aadhaar card has become an essential document now. It is used for many things like opening a bank account or applying for a ration card. The card works as your ID and holds your personal details.
Since people often change their mobile numbers, the government advises everyone to update their Aadhaar information every 10 years, especially their mobile number. If your number has changed, it's important to update it in your Aadhaar to keep using Aadhaar-linked services like bank verification, subsidies, and online OTP-based authentication.
As of July 2025, you cannot update your mobile number online since biometric verification is required. Instead, you must book an appointment and visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (enrolment center).

Here's how to update your mobile number in Aadhaar:
Step-by-Step Process to Book an Appointment:
1. Go to the official UIDAI website: uidai.gov.in.
2. Choose your language and go to My Aadhaar > Get Aadhaar > Book an Appointment.
3. Enter your city or location and click 'Proceed to Book Appointment'.
4. Enter your current mobile number and CAPTCHA, then click 'Generate OTP'.
5. Enter the OTP received on your phone and click 'Verify OTP'.
6. Fill in your Aadhaar number, full name, Date Of Birth (DOB), state, city, and preferred Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
7. Choose 'Update Mobile Number' as the update type.
8. Select a convenient date and time, check all details, and click 'Submit'.
At the Aadhaar Seva Kendra:
• Visit the centre at your chosen time.
• Officials will verify your identity with biometric checks.
• Pay a Rs 50 service fee.
• You'll receive a URN (Update Request Number) to track the update status online.
How to Track the Status?
After you submit the form to update your mobile number in Aadhaar, you can check the status online by following these steps:
1. Go to the official UIDAI website: uidai.gov.in.
2. Click on "My Aadhaar" and then select "Check Aadhaar Status."
3. Choose the option "Check Enrolment & Update Status."
4. Enter your URN (Update Request Number) and the captcha code.
5. Click "Submit" to see the current status of your request.
It usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks for the new number to be updated in the system. Having the correct mobile number is necessary because many Aadhaar-based services, like banking or government schemes, send OTPs (one-time passwords) for verification.
Without an updated number, you might not be able to access these services. When updating your Aadhaar, you can also use the same appointment system to make other changes such as updating your name, address, date of birth, or biometric details.
Keeping your Aadhaar information accurate and up to date, especially your mobile number, helps avoid problems and ensures smooth access to important services.
