Aadhaar News: Check New UIDAI Rules For Aadhaar Enrolment And Updation Here

Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has given new guidelines for Aadhaar card updation. The UIDAI has recently issued revised guidelines for updating Aadhaar cards, with an intent to simplify the process and introduce flexibility for cardholders. These changes, encompassing both online and offline methods, have been introduced via an amendment to the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Rules.

The UIDAI has released new forms for resident individuals and non-resident individuals (NRIs) for Aadhaar enrolment or updation purposes.

Meanwhile, recently, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) removed Aadhaar from the list of acceptable documents for proof of date of birth (DoB) for correction and updation purposes. The removal of Aadhaar as proof of date of birth by EPFO seems to be aligning with the UIDAI's directive and the legal stance on Aadhaar's limitations. EPFO members and entities involved in date-of-birth corrections should be aware of this latest EPFO update.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued a circular saying Aadhaar Card will no longer be accepted as a valid document for being considered as a Date of Birth (DOB) Proof.

Aadhar Card: Update Information

As per the new rules, an Aadhaar card holder can now update information by both online and offline methods. The information update to the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) can be done either by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or through the Mobile application and UIDAI website.

The old 2016 rules had this facility for the updation of addresses in online mode primarily. The revised guidelines have removed such restrictions, potentially enabling online updates for various details, including mobile numbers.

For other details updation, Aadhaar number holder was required to visit the enrolment centre.

Aadhaar Card: New enrolment forms For Aadhaar Enrollment

The existing forms for Aadhaar enrolment and updates have been replaced by new ones tailored for different categories:
Form 1: Resident individuals and non-resident individuals (with proof of address in India) aged 18 years and above, will use Form 1 for enrolment and updates.
Form 2: Particularly for NRIs with address proof outside India, used for enrolment and updates.
Form 3: Form 3 is designed for the enrolment of children aged between 5 and less than 18 years (resident or NRI having an Indian address).
Form 4: Form 4 is meant for NRI children with addresses outside India.
Form 5: This form will be used by residents or NRI children below five years of age for Aadhaar enrolment or updates in Aadhaar.
Form 6: To be used by NRI children (having an address outside India) aged below five years.
Form 7: Form 7 is meant for resident foreign nationals aged above 18 years, seeking enrollment or updates with details such as foreign passport, OCI Card, and valid long-term visa.
Form 8: To be used by resident foreign nationals aged under 18 years.
Form 9: Form 9 is meant for the cancellation of Aadhaar numbers upon reaching 18 years of age.
Aadhaar card: Update after 10 years
A significant change enables Aadhaar cardholders to update documents/information 10 years after the date of Aadhaar number generation. The update can be done online or by submitting a form at the enrollment centre.

Other important points to consider:

• If a person's age is declared sans documentary proof, only the year of declared/approximate birth shall be printed on the Aadhaar card.
• The complete date of birth on the Aadhaar card will need documentary proof.
• Aadhaar enrolment or updates can be done based on document verification or confirmation by the Head of Family (HoF), where the HoF needs to provide Aadhaar details and sign Form 1.
• According to Form 1 guidelines, in case NRIs provide a non-Indian mobile number, no SMS/text message will be sent, as per Form 1 guidelines.
• Valid Indian passport is the only acceptable Proof of Identity (POI) for NRIs.
