The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free in order to better serve the country's 138 crore (1.38 billion) Aadhaar holders. The deadline for updating Aadhaar data for free has been extended by UIDAI from December 14, 2024, to June 14, 2025. Aadhaar holders will be able to change their card details online for free thanks to the extension. UIDAI has repeatedly extended deadlines to encourage individuals to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar details in order to maintain the accuracy of demographic information.
Aadhaar Update Last Date
"UIDAl extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2025; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAl has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar," mentioned the statutory authority of the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Aadhaar Cardholders may update their Aadhaar database documents for free on the myAadhaar site, which is the sole way to improve service delivery and ensure correct Aadhaar-based authentication. There will be fees for offline updates at Aadhaar facilities after the deadline for updating Aadhaar data which is now set to June 14, 2025.
List of Documents Required To Update Aadhaar
The documents listed below can be used as proof of identity, address, relationship, or date of birth to update data on an Aadhaar cardholder of any age.
- Valid Indian Passport
- PAN Card/e-PAN Card
- Ration / PDS Photograph Card / eRation Card
- Voter Identity Card /e-Voter Identity Card
- Driving licence
- Service Photo Identity Card issued by Central Government/ State Government/ PSU/ regulatory body / statutory body
- Pensioner Photo Identity Card / Freedom Fighter Photo Identity Card / Pension Payment Order.
- Kisan Photo Passbook
- CGHS/ ECHS/ ESIC/ Medi-Claim Card
- Disability Identity Card / Certificate of Disability
- Marriage Certificate with or without photograph
- ST / SC / OBC Certificate issued by Central Government / State Government
- School Leaving Certificate (SLC)/ School Transfer Certificate (TC)
- Mark-sheet/Certificate issued by recognised Board of Education or university
- Electricity bill
- Water bill
- Telephone landline bill
- Property Tax Receipt (not older than 1 year)
- Birth certificate
- Life or medical insurance Policy
Why Updating Aadhaar Is Necessary?
According to UIDAI, "Updated supporting documents for identity and address for Aadhaar enable ease of living, better service delivery and accurate authentication. Therefore, submitting recent identity and address documents is in the interest of the Aadhaar number holder."
"An Aadhaar number holder may, on completion of every period of 10 years from the date of generation of the Aadhaar number assigned to him, update the documents or the information evidencing proof of identity and proof of address as referred to in regulation 10, at least once, by submitting an application in such form set out in Schedule I as is applicable to such Aadhaar number holder or in the online form provided at the website or mobile application of the Authority," as per UIDAI.
How To Upload Aadhaar Documents Online?
- Go to uidai.gov.in and click on the 'Update Aadhaar' option on the homepage.
- Based on your requirement click on any of the service Document Update or Update Address in your Aadhaar under the Aadhaar Update Service section.
- To submit the documents online enter your Aadhaar number and the one-time password (OTP) to log in at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in /.
- If the data provided on your profile is inaccurate, click on 'If there is mismatch in the Address, click here' option.
- Now choose the proof of identity document you want to submit from the drop-down option, then upload it. The file must be smaller than 2 MB.
- Now choose the address document you want to submit and then upload it. The file must be less than 2 MB in size.
- Click on 'Submit' to finish the process.
Aadhaar Card Charges For Submitting Documents
Document submission on the myAadhaar site is free till June 14, 2025. There is a fee of Rs. 50 to submit documents at an Aadhaar establishment.
What Happens When One Fails To Update Aadhaar Biometric Information?
As per UIDAI, "Where an Aadhaar number holder has attained the age of 5 or 15 years, the first update in his/her Aadhaar has to be necessarily accompanied by a biometric information update. Where an Aadhaar number holder who has attained the age of 5 or 15 years fails to update his/her biometric information within 2 years of attaining such age, his/her Aadhaar number shall be deactivated. The facility of biometric information update shall be available free of cost to the Aadhaar number holder till attaining the age of 7 or 17 years, respectively. Thereafter, the Aadhaar number holder can activate his/her Aadhaar number by updating his/her biometric information. However, the applicable charges for biometric information update as fixed by the Authority from time to time shall be borne by the Aadhaar number holder. The Aadhaar number shall not be omitted even if the Aadhaar number holder does not update biometric information, and the Aadhaar number shall remain in deactivated state."
Following deactivation, UIDAI will temporarily stop providing services to the holder of the Aadhaar number until the individual who holds it changes or corrects the information that led to the authority deactivating his or her Aadhaar number.
