The Ministry of Railways has launched a wide range of changes in rules and regulations to make online train ticket booking easier for passengers. However, a lot of people rely on the old-school method of booking tickets with the help of agents. While using agents can simplify the process, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a warning, urging passengers to be cautious of fraudulent booking agents.
A lot of passengers are booking tickets for their clients using personal ID, which is fully illegal, flags IRCTC in its recent social media post. The IRCTC shares a social media post to issue a crucial alert for train passengers.

Why Train Passengers Should Be Aware Of Fake Agents?
The warning highlights the activities of fraudulent agents who misuse personal information to book train tickets illegally. Such actions can to ticket cancellations, making it essential for travellers to verify the legitimacy of their bookings.
How To Check For Scam Related To Fake Agents?
IRCTC in its social media posts made it clear that it is illegal for agents to book tickets using personal id. In its post, IRCTC urged passengers to check the name, address and agency code of the authorised agent on their train ticket.
If your ticket is booked through a registered agent, the agent's name, address, and agency code will be clearly printed on the first page. Conversely, if "Normal User" appears at the top of your ticket, it indicates booking through a personal user ID and not a registered agent.
"The name, address, and agency code of the authorized agent are printed on the first page of the ticket. On tickets booked using a personal ID, "Normal User" is written in the upper part. Authorised agents cannot book Opening Tatkal (30 minutes) and ARP tickets (10 minutes) before the specified time.
How To Verify A Train Ticket Agent?
Before booking through an agent, ensure they are registered with IRCTC. You can verify this by checking the list of registered agents available on IRCTC's official website or mobile app. This step is crucial to avoid falling prey to scams and ensuring your ticket is valid.
IRCTC advises passengers to always book tickets through its official website or app. Avoid dealing with unknown agents as they might charge extra fees or misuse your personal data. Following these guidelines will help keep your travel safe and hassle-free.
Registered agents are restricted from booking immediate tickets within the first 30 minutes of availability and advance reservation tickets within the first 10 minutes. If an agent attempts to book during these periods, it could indicate fraudulent activity. Stay vigilant against such practices to protect yourself from potential scams.
What Can Go Wrong On Booking Tickets Via Fraud Agents?
Booking tickets through unregistered agents can lead to several issues, including cancellations and financial loss. To ensure a smooth journey, adhere strictly to IRCTC's recommended procedures and remain cautious of unfamiliar agents.
The IRCTC alert serves as a reminder for passengers to be cautious while booking train tickets. By following these simple steps and verifying agent credentials, travellers can safeguard themselves against fraud and enjoy a secure travel experience.
