A PAN, or Permanent Account Number, is required for filing an income tax return. Apart from filing I-T returns, PAN is also required for many other services such as opening a bank account, applying for a loan, and so on because it is an important KYC document. PAN is now required for anyone earning an income (whether from a job or a business). If you do not yet have a PAN, you should get one as soon as possible. With the UMANG app, you can easily access nearly 100s of government services and applying for a PAN has become very simple. Here is how you can apply for a PAN via the UMANG app.
What is PAN?
PAN (Permanent Account Number) is an identification number that is assigned to all Indian taxpayers. PAN is an electronic system that records all tax-related information for a person or company against a single PAN number. This serves as the primary key for information storage and is shared across the country. As a result, no two tax-paying entities can share the same PAN.
What is the UMANG app?
Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (Umang) is a mobile app developed by the Indian government as part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Digital India programme that allows access to services provided by the national and state governments. Umang, among other services, provides PAN card services such as applying for a new PAN, requesting a correction to an existing PAN, and resolving any PAN-related queries.
How to apply for PAN card through the UMANG app
- Download and Install the UMANG app from the app store.
- Register with your phone number. It can also be linked to your Aadhaar number. You are now ready to go once you have completed the registration process.
- To apply for a new PAN, first select My PAN and then New PAN Card (49A).
- Choose 'apply with Form 49A physical'. Fill in your personal information required for applying for a PAN card here, and an electronic version of the completed Form 49A will be generated. You can print this file and send it to a PAN application processing branch.
- After you select "apply using Form 49A physical," the following form will appear, in which you must fill in your information. If you are an individual, select "Body of Individual" in the first row (under applicant status) and "Both Physical PAN card and E-PAN" in the second row. Fill in any other personal information requested on the form.
- Enter all the required information and submit the form. When the form is successfully submitted, an application number is generated. You must now make payment for the same. After successfully making payment, the applicant can generate a digital document file in PDF format by clicking the "generate PDF'' button.
- Print the form and attach two passport-sized (3.5 cm* 2.5 cm) photographs of yourself. Sign in three places on the form: across the affixed photograph on the left hand box, below the photograph on the right hand box, and in the space provided on page 2.
- Now, attach copies of relevant documents such as identity proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth. Your application is now complete. You can drop it off at your nearest UTIITSL office.
