In the latest development, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that even babies can now be enrolled in Aadhaar. Biometric information like as fingerprints and iris scans are not included in a child's Aadhaar data. Once the child crosses the age of 5, biometrics need to be updated, UIDAI has said.
In the latest development, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) tweeted on Wednesday 02 March that Even a newborn child can be enrolled for Aadhaar.
Why Aadhaar Card for your newborn child is important?
Several schools require the child's Aadhaar number throughout the admissions process. It is, therefore, better to apply for a unique ID. You should apply for your child's Aadhaar number straight away if you haven't already. Aadhaar may be applied for by anybody of any age, including newborns and children.
Documents Required to Apply for Your Newborn Child's Aadhaar Card?
1) A copy of the child's birth certificate or a discharge slip from a government hospital.
2) One of the parents' Aadhaar card
Please note that parents with children under the age of five must accompany them to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for biometric authentication.
Child's Age
Children Below 5 Years of age
Children below the age of 5 are exempted from biometrics. As a result, biometric data like fingerprints and iris scans are not stored in the Aadhaar database for children. Biometrics must be updated when a child reaches the age of five.
Children Above 5 Years of age
When these below 5-year-old children reach the ages of 5 and 15, they will be required to add their biometrics, which includes ten fingers, an iris scan, and a photograph of their face. A remark to that effect will be included in the original Aadhaar letter.
