The consumer can file different types of complaints based on the issue by visiting the concerned consumer court and upon submitting the required documents.
On the other hand, the aggravated consumer can also opt for registering the compliant online by following the few simple steps.

Who can lodge a Consumer Complaint?
In the recent years, the government has launched awareness programs making the voice of consumers more active and stronger to claim their rights whenever they face harassment or get cheated. If a consumer has any grievances and complaints about a product or service or its quality or made to pay excess price or receive defected material and so on then they can lodge a complaint and seek protection.
The Consumer Protection and Rights in the country is dealt under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.
This act provides the right to the following to file a complaint and they are:
• Consumer
• Two or more consumers who have the common interest
• Any of the registered voluntary association.
Note: The complaint should be lodged within two years from the date of cause of action. If the complaint is lodged post completion of 2 years, then the court will not entertain such cases except if there is a reasonable cause for delay in filing the complaint.
To register a consumer complaint through online mode, it is necessary to first visit the website run by the Consumer Online Resource and Empowerment Centre. The site is a complaint and grievance redressal system maintained by the Consumer Co-Ordination Council and is supported by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.
Registering the Complaint
Firstly, the consumer has to lodge the complaint on the web portal. To do this, one has to fill in the online registration form by providing all the essential details like name, phone number, residential address. The complainant has to create a user id and password in the web portal.
Lodge a Complaint
The complainant can file a complaint against any of the registered brand or service provider. The online complaint system will have a dropdown section in the web portal. In the menu section it will mention all the brands, sectors, segments which are registered with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
It is necessary on the part of the complainant to attach necessary documents to support his/her complaints while raising an online complaint. The consequences and the relief can also be indicated at the time of raising the complaint.
Check Status
Post submission of the complaint successfully, the complainant will be assigned an electronically generated number. The same number can be used to track the status of the complaint until the problem gets resolved.
One can even raise multiple complaints using the same log in credentials. The complainant can track the same via online mode. To track the progress of the complaint and its subsequent resolution, both the brand and the consumer will be able to track the progress of the complaint.
