How to Generate Static Password on New Income Tax Website?

Generate static password is a new service launched by the New Income Tax website. The I-T e-filing portal has approximately 8.46 crore individual registered users. For the Assessment Year 2020-21, almost 3.13 crore ITRs have been e-verified (the fiscal year 2019-20)

What is a Static password?

To login to e filing portal, you need two-factor authentication, an additional layer of security. Static Password is one such authentication. Static password is very useful when there is no network connection or no mobile, as it will be difficult to receive OTP/EVC on your mobile.

How to Generate Static Password on New Income Tax website?

Step 1: Login using Credentials https://www.incometax.gov.in/
Step 2: Click on My profile
Step 3: Under profile page
Step 4: On the left menu, Click on Generate Static Password
Step 5: Read all instructions related to static password
Step 6: Click on generate password
Step 7: Generated Static password will be sent to the registered mail ID
Step 8: 10 Static password are generated at a time
Taxpayers should be aware, however, that the same password cannot be used twice and is only valid for 30 days.
Step 9: Use any one password to login the portal

How to check the status of Static Password?

Step 1: Login Income tax portal using credentials
Step 2: Go to profile
Step 3: Click on a static password
Step 4: It will display the number of static passwords that are active and their validity.
Step 5: Click resend the static password
Step 6: You will receive an unused static password in Mail ID

You will know how many static passwords are unused along with their validity.
