Aadhaar Card users can utilise the Aadhaar paperless offline e-KYC (Know Your Customer) for offline verification of their identification. This service is available to any Aadhaar number holder who wants to authenticate his or her identity with any service provider or Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) using digitally signed XML retrieved from the UIDAI website. The service provider should be able to furnish this Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC and do the offline authentication at their premise. Residents can send the XML ZIP file to the service provider together with the Share Code at their leisure. According to the Unique Identification Authority of India, one can create an Aadhaar paperless e-KYC document online by just signing in at the direct link of UIDAI - resident.uidai.gov.in/offline-kyc (UIDAI).

How does Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC work?
Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC negates the requirement for residents to submit a photocopy of their Aadhaar card, instead of allowing them to download the KYC XML and deliver it to service providers seeking their KYC details. The KYC records are recorded in a machine-readable XML format that is digitally certified by UIDAI, letting the agency validate its legitimacy and identify any deceit. The service provider or agency can also use its own OTP/Face authentication procedures to verify the user's identity. The UIDAI digital signature is used to digitally sign the XML file created by the Aadhaar number holder utilising Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC. When performing offline verification, the service provider can validate the file's demographic details and declare it as valid.
Which fields are included in the XML while downloading offline e-KYC data?
Through an internet-based KYC system, the UIDAI provides a method to authenticate the identity of an Aadhaar number holder. The e-KYC facility enables rapid, verified identity verification at a fraction of the expense of traditional KYC and verification. The Aadhaar number holder may submit Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC data to the validating agency in digital or physical format, coupled with a digital format of XML or PDF file or a printed format of QR code. The following fields are contained in the XML while downloading/obtaining offline e-KYC data.
- Name of the holder
- Reference number
- Resident address
- Photograph
- Gender
- DOB/YOB
- Mobile number and Email ID in hashed form
The Aadhaar Paperless Offline e-KYC data is encrypted using a "Share Phrase" issued by the Aadhaar number holder at the time of downloading, which must be shared with agencies in order to enable KYC records to be accessed.
