SIPs (systematic investment plans) are an excellent way to invest in mutual funds. It enables you to invest small sums on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. SIP investing is the most popular way for young investors to invest in mutual funds. It instils financial discipline by encouraging you to set aside a set amount of money on a regular basis for your investments. When a desired financial goal is met, an investor may elect to discontinue the systematic investment plan (SIP) instruction. This may also be required if the investor is unable to continue with the SIP instalment for the specified period. The cancellation or termination of a SIP is a simple process that can be completed by the investor himself or herself.
How to stop SIP online?
Step 1: Log in to the mutual fund website using the login credentials from your ongoing SIP. You'll find it easier to log in if you have your PAN, bank account number, and folio number ready.
Step 2: Next, select the currently running SIP and click "Cancel SIP."
Step 3: Your SIP will be terminated within 30 days of making this request.
If you created an online SIP with the assistance of an online agent, you must terminate the SIP through your mutual fund portal account.
How to stop SIP offline?
Step 1: Investors must notify the AMC of their intention to discontinue the ongoing SIP. Investors must also notify the bank where the SIP auto-debits have been set up.
Step 2: Once the procedure has begun, investors must submit the Appointment Form to the mutual fund's AMC or RTA (Registrar and Transfer Agents).
Step 3: Depending on the fund house, the SIP cancellation request may take up to 21 days to process.
Step 4: To cancel the SIP, the investor must submit a formal request to the bank, known as a NACH mandate.
Step 5: The AMC will cancel the SIP after issuing a 'Stop SIP' order to the bank and no money has been deducted from the account for two months.
Investors may consider discontinuing SIPs if they do not have enough money to meet their basic needs. When investors run out of money, most experts recommend pausing SIPs rather than terminating them.
How to temporarily stop your SIPs?
Step 1: To access the investor account, go to the AMC's website where they made their SIP investment.
Step 2: Review the SIP transactions to learn more about all of the SIPs that are still active with the fund company.
Step 3: When investors choose the 'SIP Pause' option, SIPs are typically suspended for a minimum of one month and a maximum of six months. You can pause SIPs for up to three months with some AMCs.
Volatility causes many investors, particularly risk-averse investors, to exit the market. Furthermore, underwhelming fund performance is a significant reason for SIP cancellation.
As an investor, you should be aware that the AMC is not permitted to impose any penalties or additional fees if you decide to discontinue your SIP in the middle of your plan period.
