Amidst the price cut in the 19 kg LPG cylinder, there is a little over 9 months left to enjoy a Rs 300 subsidy on LPG prices per 14.2 kg cylinder (and proportionately pro-rated for 5 kg cylinder). The government has decided to continue the Rs 300 targeted subsidy to PM Ujjwala Yojana Consumers till March 31, 2025, until further notice.
For the LPG subsidy of Rs 300, the government has announced a total expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore for the financial year 2024-25. The subsidy is credited directly to the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries. The subsidy is available for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during FY 2024-25.

To make Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), a clean cooking fuel, available to rural and deprived poor households, the Government launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in May 2016, to provide deposit-free LPG connections to adult women of poor households.
How To Apply For LPG Subsidy Via Aadhaar Card:
Step 1: Visit the website http://mylpg.in/index.aspx and click on the 'FORMS' option.
Step 2: Then click on 'PAHAL Joining Form'. After doing so, an application form will appear on the screen.
Step 3: Download and print out the document. There will be one form which will be required to be submitted to your LPG distributor and bank. The form had PART 1, PART B, and PART C which should be submitted with accurate details. Also, ensure that all relevant documents are attached.
It is PART B of the form which will require you to add your Aadhaar card number, while PART of the form includes details of your LPG connection, and PART C of the form requires details of your bank account.
Step 4: After submitting the form to LPG distributors and banks, ensure to take the ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SLIP as proof of your submission.
Earlier in March, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry stated that India imports about 60% of its LPG requirement. To shield PMUY beneficiaries from the impact of sharp fluctuations in international prices of LPG and to make LPG more affordable to PMUY consumers thereby ensuring sustained usage of LPG by them, the Government started a targeted subsidy of Rs.200/- per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per annum (and proportionately pro-rated for 5 kg connections) to the PMUY consumers in May 2022. In October 2023, the Government increased the targeted subsidy to Rs.300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per annum (and proportionately pro-rated for 5 kg connections).
The average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 29 per cent from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.87 refills (till January 2024) prorated for 2023-24. All PMUY beneficiaries are eligible for this targeted subsidy, as per the Ministry.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, new LPG Connections are now available on demand across the country. In case you do not have an LPG connection from any of the PSU Oil Companies in your household and you have a separate cooking area in your house, you can avail of a domestic connection in your household.
