Pan Card: How To Change Or Correct Your Name On PAN Card Online/Offline?

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number. Income Tax Department issues PAN Card in the form of a laminated card to individuals. PAN card has emerged one of the most significant documents for Indian residents. The key document has been used as an identity proof as well as for income tax purposes.

PAN allows the department to link all transactions of the "person" with the department. These transactions may include tax payments, TDS/TCS credits, returns of income/wealth/gift/FBT, specified transactions, correspondence, and so on. PAN, thus, acts as an identifier for the "person" with the tax department.

There are times when individuals may face difficulty with the name registered on their PAN card. But you need not worry anymore as you can conveniently make necessary changes using online and offline methods to introduce corrections in your name. Below are the step-by-step methods individuals may follow to change/correct their name on PAN Card:

Online methods to correct/change your name on PAN card:

• Visit https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html
• Choose "apply online" and after this under Application Type, you need to select "Changes or Correction" in existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card (no changes in current PAN Data)
• Under Category, you need to choose "Individual" and fill the necessary details:

1. Last Name/Surname
2. First Name
3. Date Of Birth
4. Email ID
5. Citizenship Status (if you are citizen of India)
6. PAN Number

• When you have given the aforementioned details, you need to agree to information statement by choosing "By submitting data to us and/or using our NSDL e-Gov TIN website"
• Fill the Captcha code as shown and press on the "Submit" button
• After filling the form, you will get a message conforming your request with a "Token Number" xxxxxxxxx and same will be sent to your email ID given in the PAN application
• Now click on "Continue with PAN application form" to move ahead. You shall be redirected to Online PAN application page.
• You must follow the on-screen instructions to move ahead. If you require to update the image or signature on your PAN Card, you may click on the option of "photo mismatch" or "signature mismatch"option
• Soon after all details have been filled and payment has been made, an acknowledgement slip will get generated. You will have to print it and send it to NSDL e-gov office along with physical proof of the document

How to correct/change your name offline?

• You need to download request for new PAN card or/and changes or correction in PAN Data Form
• You must complete all necessary fields in the form
• Now attach all supporting documents like identity proof, address proof, and passport size photos
• Submit the form to your nearest NSDL collection center
• You need to pay the applicable charges for PAN card update or correction offline.
• After the payment, you will get a 15-digit acknowledgement number to track status of your PAN Card application
