The State Bank of India, the country's largest lender, launched an e-Bank Guarantee (e-BG) facility on Thursday in collaboration with National e-Governance Services Limited (NeSL). This function will be replaced by e-stamping and e-signature with the introduction of e-BG.

In a statement, the SBI stated that this facility will bring about a revolutionary change in the banking ecosystem, where bank guarantees are frequently used in large quantities. The bank currently issues these guarantees with physical stamping and wet signatures.
NeSL's Digital Document Execution (DDE) technology, which includes e-Stamp and e-Sign features, will make the e-Bank Guarantee procedure easier with the new facility.
What benefits will bank customers receive?
Bank customers and other beneficiaries will receive an e-Bank Guarantee without further verification if they use the NeSL platform.
The SBI also stated that it has taken this initiative to increase transparency and reduce turnaround time from days to minutes.
"It gives us immense pleasure to join hands with NeSL to facilitate the e-BG service," Dinesh Kumar Khara, Chairman, SBI, told Live Mint. SBI has always been a leader in providing cutting-edge digital offerings to its customers in order to make banking services more convenient.
Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG) is a significant step forward in this journey that will shorten the Bank Guarantee life cycle. The initiative complements SBI's commitment to providing sustainable and user-friendly banking services."
What is an Electronic Bank Guarantee?
An Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG), according to NeSL, eliminates the physical documentation typically associated with the issuance of BG. It reduces the industry average of 3-4 working days for BG issuance and delivery to the beneficiary to a few minutes.
An e-BG includes the following digital steps: BG application, preview and confirmation, paperless e-stamping, e-signing, hosting of the final electronic BG on the NeSL portal, and notification of the final BG to the beneficiary.
After it is issued, the beneficiary can immediately view the final digital BG on the NeSL portal. An e-BG does not require additional authentication from the BG issuing bank.
