You Can Now Avail These Aadhaar Services Via SMS: Check Details & Steps Here

To enable users to conduct quick and secure Aadhaar services from the comfort of their home, UIDAI has introduced the "Aadhaar Services on SMS" feature. Regarding the same, the statutory body has clearly mentioned on its official website that "Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a service called "Aadhaar Services on SMS" which enables Aadhaar Number holders, who do not have access to internet/resident portal/m-Aadhaar, etc. to use various Aadhaar services like Virtual ID generation/retrieval, Aadhaar lock/unlock, etc. through SMS." For conducting Aadhaar services or changing Aadhaar details via SMS a resident Aadhaar Cardholder can send an SMS from his or her registered Mobile to 1947. Residents can conduct VID Generation/Retrieval, Lock/Unlock Aadhaar Number, and other functions by sending an SMS using the format listed below to 1947 from their Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

Aadhaar SMS Services

According to the UIDAI's official website, residents can access these Aadhaar Services by sending the following SMS from their registered mobile number to 1947:

To Generate Virtual ID: For generating Virtual ID via SMS type GVIDAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits and send it to 1947.

To retrieve Virtual ID: For retrieving virtual ID via SMS type RVIDAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits and send it to 1947.

To Get OTP: To get a one-time password (OTP) on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, UIDAI has stated two ways to do so i.e. Via Aadhaar Number or Via Virtual ID.

• To get OTP via Aadhaar number type GETOTPAadhaar-NUMBER-last-4-digits and send it to 1947.
• To get OTP via Virtual ID type GETOTPVirtual ID-NUMBER-last-6-digits and send it to 1947.

To lock Aadhaar: According to UIDAI, two SMS must be sent in order to use this service.

SMS 1 : GETOTPAadhaar NUMBER-last-4-digits
SMS 2 : LOCKUIDAadhaar NUMBER-last 4-digitsOTP-6-digits

According to UIDAI:

(1) For locking Aadhaar Number, Virtual ID is required to be pre-generated else it you would not be allowed to Lock
2) In case of multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 4 digits of the Aadhaar Numbers are same for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be sent as: LOCKUIDAadhaar NUMBER-last 8-digitsOTP-6-digits

To unlock Aadhaar: According to UIDAI, two SMS must be sent in order to use this service.

SMS 1: GETOTPVirtual-ID-last-6-digits
SMS 2: UNLOCKUIDVirtual-ID-last-6-digitsOTP-6-digits

According to UIDAI:

(1) This service can be availed by passing Virtual ID ONLY
(2) In case of multiple Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 6 digits of the Virtual IDs are some for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be send as: UNLOCKUIDVirtual-ID-last-10-digitsOTP-6-digits

To Enable Biometric Lock: According to UIDAI, two SMS must be sent in order to use this service.

In case if Aadhaar Number is used -

SMS 1: GETOTPAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits
SMS 2: ENABLEBIOLOCKAadhaar-Number-last-4-digitsOTP-6-digits

In case if Virtual ID is used -

SMS 1: GETOTPVirtual-ID-last-6-digits
SMS 2: ENABLEBIOLOCKVIrtual-ID-last-6-digitsOTP-6-digits

According to UIDAI:

(1) If Aadhaar is locked, then this service shall not be allowed to be availed
(2) In case of multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 4 digits of the Aadhaar Numbers are same for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be sent as: ENABLEBIOLOCKAadhaar-Number-last-8-digitsOTP-6-digits
(3) In case of multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 6 digits of Virtual ID are same for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be sent as: ENABLEBIOLOCKVirtual-ID-last-10-digitsOTP-6-digits.

To Disable Biometric Lock

According to UIDAI, two SMS must be sent in order to use this service.

In case if Aadhaar Number is used -

SMS 1: GETOTPAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits
SMS 2: DISABLEBIOLOCKAadhaar-Number-last-4-digitsOTP-6-digits

In case if Virtual ID is used -

SMS 1: GETOTPVirtual-ID-last-6-digits
SMS 2: DISABLEBIOLOCKVIrtual-ID-last-6-digitsOTP-6-digits

According to UIDAI:

(1) If Aadhaar is locked, then this service shall not be allowed to be availed
(2) In case of multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 4 digits of the Aadhaar Number are same for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be sent as: DISABLEBIOLOCKAadhaar-Number-last-8-digitsOTP-6-digits
(3) In case of multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers linked to same mobile number, and when last 6 digits of Virtual ID are same for at least 2 dependents, then second SMS to be sent as: DISABLEBIOLOCKVirtual-ID-last-10-digitsOTP-6-digits

To Temporarily Unlock Biometrics

According to UIDAI, 2 SMS are required to be sent for this facility:

In case if Aadhaar Number is used -

SMS 1: GETOTPAadhaar-Number-last-4-digits

In case if Virtual ID is used -
