Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) marked a historic moment onWednesday as it commenced its airside operations with the arrival of itsfirst commercial flight, signalling a major milestone for India’s civilaviation infrastructure.

The inaugural arrival was IndiGo flight *6E460* from *Bengaluru*, whichtouched down at *08:00 hours*. The aircraft was accorded a ceremonial *watercannon salute*, a time-honoured aviation tradition used globally to marksignificant firsts in airport operations. The event symbolised NMIA’s firstcommercial touchdown and formally ushered in scheduled passenger services. Shortly after, the airport witnessed its first departure as *IndiGo flight6E882* bound for *Hyderabad* took off at *08:40 hours*, completing NMIA’sinaugural arrival-and-departure cycle on its opening day.
The start of scheduled passenger operations at Navi Mumbai InternationalAirport represents a crucial step in strengthening air connectivityfor the *MumbaiMetropolitan Region (MMR)*. Once fully operational, NMIA is expected tosignificantly ease congestion at the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji MaharajInternational Airport and enhance overall capacity to meet the region’sgrowing passenger and cargo demand.
Developed as a greenfield international airport, NMIA is designed to serveas a key aviation hub, supporting economic growth, tourism, and regionaldevelopment.
