In a boost for the Indian economy watchers, Apple has created over 1 lakh direct manufacturing jobs in the last 2 years in India, according to the Indian govt. According to Minister of State Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar the move has made India the most significant smartphone market hub for Apple.

"Propelled by Prime Minister @narendramodi's visionary PLI scheme @Apple ecosystem has generated over one lakh new direct jobs in manufacturing over the last 24 months", the minister tweeted.
"About 70 per cent of these are 19-24 year old women, who are starting their careers, acquiring skills and improving the ease of living for their families," he added.
Apple began its iPhones manufacturing operations in India since 2017, and now manufactures 7% of its total iPhones in India, according to a recent Bloomberg report, it has grown from 1% production in 2021. Indian soil has become the world's fastest-growing smartphone market. For the financial year 2022-23, Apple has assembled more than 5 billion USD iPhones in India.
According to Counterpoint Research report, Make in India's shipments from Apple has risen by 65% yearly in volumes and 162% by value, increasing the brand's value share to 25% in 2022, up from 12% in 2021.
On April 18, Apple CEO Tim Cook launched the company's first flagship retail store in India, Apple BKC. And is set to inaugurate the second store in India on April 20 in New Delhi called Apple Saket.
Besides, as per media sources, it was earlier reported that Apple will start manufacturing around 25% of iPhones in India by 2025. The report adds that the tech giant is likely to launch its upcoming iPhones in India at the same time as China. This will be the first time that the assembly of iPhones will begin in the two countries simultaneously.
In a recent interview with Tech Today, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about the Indian market. As per his statement, "India is at a tipping point. And it feels so great to be here. You can just feel the vibrancy, the dynamism, the feeling that anything here is possible."
