About 1,900 workers went on strike on Friday (September 16) and Saturday (September 17) at Maruti's two plants i.e. Suzuki Powertrain India and Suzuki Castings. The workers were on strike on Friday and Saturday which led to a shortage of crucial parts. The situation forced the company to shut the operations at both the units (Manesar and Gurgaon).

The management of the company had talks with the workers on Sunday brokered by Haryana government. The situation became critical as the talks between the management and the workers broke down and Police arrested three top leaders of the labour union on Sunday Evening.

The leaders include its president Sonu Gujjar, secretary Shiv Kumar and another employee named Ravinder.

Haryana's Labour and Employment Minister, Shiv Charan Lal Sharma tried to resolve the matter on Friday and Saturday but the result proved unproductive.

The standoff between the management and workers began a fortnight ago after workers refused to sign a 'good conduct bond'.

The company has accused the loss of revenues on the labour dispute and RBI's anti-inflationary stance.
