Retail inflation declines to 10.39% from 10.91%

Retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 10.39% in the month of March 2013, lower from 10.91% during the previous month.

The CPI index measures retail prices in major food groups, fuel, clothing, housing and education across rural and urban India.

The corresponding provisional inflation rates for rural and urban areas for March 2013 are 10.33% and 10.38% respectively. Inflation rates (final) for rural and urban areas for February 2013 are 11.01% and 10.84% respectively

CPI figures along with the wholesale price index figures are crucial, when it comes to an RBI decision to cut the repo rates.

The data for wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation is expected on Thursday.
