The rupee dropped by 1 paise against the US dollar to 56.51 in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, on the back of buying of the currency by importers.
Dealers said besides buying of the dollar by importers a lower opening in the domestic equity market saw the rupee lose ground.
The rupee had lost 12 paise to close at 11-month lows of 56.50 against the US dollar in previous session on Friday, amid worries over current account deficit and GDP growth. Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark index Sensex was lower by 67 points in early trade.
